Color of the year 2020

Every December Pantone company announces the color of the next year which effects interior design also. Classic Blue no. 19-4052 is the color of the year 2020.
This is a calming, medium dark blue, which is a cool but not too cold color. “Classic” attributive suggests that this hue is timeless, elegant and diffuses harmony. It symbolizes reconveyance of old values.
It is perfect both for base color and focal point. Since it is not a vivid color, it can be used in a large amount, even on all the four walls. A neutral color palette can be easily popped-up with it, without being too determining. Blue is not a food color, so use it moderately in the kitchen and dining room. It fits well for almost all styles.

Modern farmhouse style

The so-called modern farmhouse style, which is so popular abroad since years, appeared also in Hungary. It is not always obvious, what is the difference between this and the traditional farmhouse style.
The main features of the original, classic variation are neutral color palette, vintage accessories, mix and match furniture fitting for country style, which are mainly antique or old, natural woods and rustic mood. On the other hand, the modern variation mixes the elements above with sleek/simple lines, industrial like accessories, uses much more white and tries to reach a clearer look. It’s far less rustic. Woods are not necessarily old, only natural in color. In both cases, spaces are wide and open, the ceiling is high. Beams are remaining visible. The used metal accessories are frequently black but galvanized metal and stainless steel appears also. Furniture are newly made, conjuring up the style and shape of the old ones but in a much simpler way. The total effect is tidy, airy and light. Practicality plays a leading role.
Classic farm style uses more colors, although these are moderated, but they can be mixed bravely. The modern style, on the contrary, harmonizes neutral colors and rarely uses real colors. If it does, they are much stronger (e.g. mustard yellow, ink blue, grass green) and acting as focal points. Shades of white and gray are dominant, which is now fashionable, so the interior looks more modern because of them.

Georgian style

The English Georgian style lasted from 1714 to 1830, named after the four reigning kings George. Its two periods are early and late Georgan, the latter is also known as Regency. Light colors (e.g. powder blue, sage, cream), open spaces and rich ornamentation are its main features. The influences of Classicism, Palladianism and Industrial Revolution are strong.

Trellis pattern

Trellis patterns are perfect classic decorating elements, both on fabrics and wallpapers. Their scale is middle or big. The pattern itself can be made using only straight lines or only curved lines but also the combinations of these. It can be applied in any room of the house; the effect is guaranteed.
It is a quite daring pattern, which can be moderated by choosing a tone-on-tone or pastel variations. However, true bold colors give a special character to the room. Who is really daring, can put the wallpaper also on the ceiling.
This pattern brings the nature inside, but in a less direct way. The trellis was used by gardeners for supporting creepers, making arbors and as eye catching element also. It could be made of wood, metal and bamboo. It looked good both in natural color and painted (firstly white, green and black).
The pattern can be combined well with animal and floral motifs, toile pattern or even another trellis pattern. Harmony of colors should be well considered. The best is if the pairing patterns are from the same collection. Using the same wallpaper and fabric in one room is a very traditional and elegant solution.
Trellis pattern is perfect for example for colonial style, chinoiserie and moroccan style. The variation when the trellis pattern is formed by a small leafed, flowered bines fits well to country styles. Metallic types are good for glamour style. In a proper color, it can be a perfect accessory to seaside style also.
