Christmas

Christmas is the most beautiful holiday of the year. All homes are being decorated. If the nature does us a favor also, it covers the roads and gardens with snow that results a really sparkling spectacle.
Christmas decoration means a challenge for many of us every year. Fashion changes continuously, if someone tries to keep up, all decorations should be changed regularly. For classic interiors, there are eternal an elegant decorations that are independent on the fashion and still looking good.
The colors of Christmas depend on personal taste. What is important: to provide the emotions and shining of the occasion. Don’t save up decoration: it’s nice if there is a little surprise waiting for the guests in every hidden corner. Let’s start the decorating outdoor: place a wreath or other ornament. Put some evergreen branches and outdoor lights on the handrail of the stairs leading to the house. If it is solvable, emphasize the line of the roof, the contour of windows and doors also with some light strings. Buy a door mat with Christmas notes or figures for this month.
Since the hall decoration gives the first impression, this should not be neglected. Put garlands above the mirror and hang off glass spheres from the lamps. Another wreath can be hanged to the inner surface of the entrance door. Inside, poinsettias in decorative pots or lighting decoration should be placed on the window sills. We can also attach some snowflake shaped stickers on the glass of windows and internal doors. The stair handrails can be decorated with garlands and light strings also inside. Do the same with curtain cornices. Near the Advent wreath, further candles and candies can be placed to the table in glass dishes. If you have a fireplace, you can hang Santa Claus socks on it, even if the presents are not being put in them. Hang spherical ornaments or holly and mistletoe bouquets from the chandeliers. Branches, flowers and berries can be combined with shiny glass decorations and strings. Light will give the sense of the whole scene: candles, fire in the fireplace, light garlands and lighting decorations. From the last two, choose the ones having warm white light.
The crown of the home is the Christmas tree in the season. Although the synthetic pine tree saves a lot of work to us, the real one is much more beautiful and has a lovely scent also. Let’s purchase a pine tree in pottery or with soil ball, that will not die and can be returned after the holiday.
If you would like a classic-elegant Chritmas decoration at home, ask help from an interior designer before the holiday.

Carpet

Carpet has an important role in interior design. It gives warmth to the room, defines areas, can be a focal point and mutes sounds.
Wooden floor or a floor paved with showy stones are beautiful, however they are cold for the feet and it can be tiring standing or walking on them for a long time.
The main role of the carpet in a living room is defining the area. Furniture almost floats in the room if not connected to each other by something. When choosing a carpet, pay attention to the size. It is an elegant and classic solution if at least the front legs of the chairs, armchairs and sofas are on the carpet. When gathering for watching TV or around the fireplace, the carpet gives the frame for this. We can seat there comfortably even without slippers because of the warm and soft textile, or we can even sit on the floor.
Let’s choose a carpet in the dining room with a size that the legs of the chairs shouldn’t slip down even if the guest stands up and pushes it back.
Wall to wall carpet is quite good in a bedroom, however not everyone likes it. It can be a good solution if the carpet is placed only under the bed or at least smaller rugs on both sides of it, this way the feet don’t touch the cool floor when getting out of bed. This provides a more comfortable feeling and the day begins better.
It is worth to place a smaller rug on the kitchen stone floor where we walk or stand the most, for example at the front of the sink. It should be made of an easily cleanable material with looped and not cut threads, as far as possible.
In the hallway, through the corridors, we can guide our guests with the carpet.. Let’s put it inside from the entrance door to draw attention to the shoes should be taken off. Since these are the most frequently used areas of the house/flat, it is practical to buy one here which bears well the harder usage.
Don’t place rugs in bathroom and toilet. Let’s use here a so-called bathmat designed right for this purpose or lay down a towel.

Collections

The proper placement of different collections is not an easy issue. We don’t want to give it up, but we cannot store it as we would like to. The main reason is the lack of space or organization.
There are collections, which are evident to store, like books, stamps, DVDs, etc. We can find place for them on the bookshelf, the box under the TV or at the bottom of the coffee table. The unused space under the stairs or above the doors can be equipped by shelves to. But the real problem is caused by special collections to be exhibited in the department. We should find a worthy location for them, not to pick out from the drawer if we would like to take a look on them.
Sculptures, ceramics, glass objects look nice on a narrow shelf made for right this, lightened by spotlights or LED lights from above. Similarly suitable is a plasterboard niche-line as well. For maquettes, models, there are wall mountable storage compartments available. These later can be easily designed and implemented by us using some wood and paint.
In case of choosing the proper surface to place paintings, drawings and etchings, we have save them from direct sunlight which can be destructive. A glass covered frame can save avoid the contact with dust.
When collecting small objects (minerals, souvenirs from abroad, watches, etc) a good solution can be placing them on the top of a commode, the glass cabinet above the tv or under the glass surface of the coffee table. Let’s group the items by color, style, theme or form. Not only the living room can be the right place for them, but the hall, the bathroom (e.g. seashells or stones), or even the bedroom.
Important: avoid overdoing it! They souldn’t cover all corners of the room – if we haven’t got a separate room right for this purpose. If the collection grows too large, let’s try to sort: show only the nicest or favorite ones. The remaining others can be stored in a box in the cabinet. If you don’t know how to optimize the available space or how to exhibit your treasures the best way, ask help from an interior designer.
