Animal protection in interior design

It may sound odd but there is a connection between interior design and animal protection. Many people like animal patterns, skins and motifs but there is always an alternative solution instead of using real materials made of animals. We can meet clients for whom it’s important that their home fulfills the animal protection principles.
Leather is the most commonly used animal material. It has several good characteristics and it is very decorative. Usually we use cow, pig, goat and lamb leather. These animals are slaughtered for their flesh, their skin-utilization is a plus, this way it isn’t waisted neither. Using this kind of leather is not against the animal protection. We can also use poromeric imitation leather instead of a real one. Its look and feel are very similar to real leathers, it breaths also and remains comfortable in heat. The material is polyurethane on textile base. It’s durable and easy to clean. Nowadays market leader textile factories produce lifelike and high-quality printed fabrics in exotic and domestic animal patterns. Exotic looking faux-furs are another good solution. These are high-quality products too and also perfect for upholstery and carpet uses.
Stags and deers shed their antlers in every year. Forestry officials gather them to be sold. These can be used for household or decoration objects looking good in classic interiors. Horns of cattle are also frequently used for this purpose. We can choose objects with similar colors and surfaces instead of real animal origin products. Many factories produce high-quality faux trophies and artificial animal leathers.
For me, not only energy saving and green architecture are important issues, but also the protection of the fauna. An alternative solution can be beautiful, chic and comfortable also, what’s more environmentally friendly.

Bedding

Bedding and its cover are important parts of the bedroom considering both the comfort and decoration. That’s why the quality, the color, the pattern is essential.
When we choose the pillow and the duvet, we have to decide what kind of filling we prefer. If we are allergic to feather, don’t need to forget softness and warmth. There are many kinds of antiallergenic fillings, for example cotton, wool, bamboo, linen and foam. Pillows filled with seeds (spelt, sour cherry, millet) are more and more popular.
Pay attention, that the chosen pillow should hold our head and neck perfectly, especially in the case of spine diseases. There are hard, semi-hard and soft versions, their ergonomic form helps to keep a healthy posture during sleeping. Somebody likes big pillows, others like small ones and somebody uses both – consider this before shopping.
It’s practical to buy two duvets, one for warm and one for cold weather. The quilting keeps the light filling at its place. If we prefer eiderdown, take care of regular airing and refreshing of the filling in a couple of years (removing shattered feather and refilling fresh ones).
Cushions are important decoration objects. Pile up pillows on both sides. Cushions can be put on the top of them after covering the bed with bedspread or before, held by them. Finish the line with a bolster or a smaller cushion. Bedspread doesn’t have to cover the whole bed. If it ends at the edge of the duvet, fold back the duvet, this way it gives additional color for the scene and the covers of the pillows also can be seen. In case of a double bed, the beddings are the same in most of the cases, but we don’t have to keep this cliché. If the beddings have different patterns, but in the same colors, the view will be richer.
Main bedroom is used every day, therefore making the bed is a daily routine. But we could amuse our guests with a hotel-room-like guest bedroom. Ask for help of an interior designer for planning.

The interior designer

Why should I call an interior designer? – Generally this is the first question occurring related to this job.
Because I can save significant cost. How so?
A good interior designer not only provides “some kind of look and feel” for the flat, but after careful planning, implements the most excellent interior based on the exact needs of the owner and the characteristics of the apartment. Removes most of the burden from the owners during the process. Organizes measurements, negotiations with experts, helps at searching the proper materials and controlling the works and so on. Problems encountering are also solved by the interior designer instead of kidnapping the owners time, of course with continuous negotiations.
According to my experience, owners usually calls for an interior designer too late, only when they realize they cannot cope alone with realizing their dreams. By that time, they have invested lots of time and money – sometimes in vain – in an activity, which has no satisfying result for them. Structural works, sometime tiling is done already which is hard or sometimes impossible to change. In ideal case, the interior designer is involved the process at the planning phase and the result will be formed common with the architect, the implementers and the owner as well.
