New Year’s changes

We are at the beginning of a new year again, it’s the period of resolutions. We are making plans for what to pay attention more, what to do and what to change. Mostly the latter one is significant, we would like to make our lives better and nicer. This can be fully solved by interior design. Let’s take the first steps, even in the first few days!
After removing the Christmas and New Year’s Eve decorations, just stand in the middle of your home and look around. Think only in small steps first. Ask the question: what is that you don’t like, what is not enough good for your taste? The sizes of rooms might be changed with a renovation or opening but to get started, let’s focus only on furniture, accessories, walls and floor: colors, material, patterns and present arrangements of all these. Cost effectiveness is frequently important at the beginning of the year.
For example: „There is never enough space in the living room when the family gathers.” This problem can be solved with rearranging furniture which might give a chance to place a bigger sofa or an additional armchair.
Or: „It would be great to have another color palette in the bedroom because we are tired of the present one.” A simple painting or wallpapering or placing some smaller decorating elements and changing some fabrics can be a solution. „The child is growing, he/she would like a room fit to his/her personality.” Rearranging or makeover the furniture can be a solution here also. Let’s implement wall panels which can be freely decorated by the child. Ask him/her before choosing the wall color, since it is his/her room. A new carpet, bedspread and some lamps refresh the mood.
Many of these and similar ideas may rise according to the renewing at the beginning of the new year. Ask for advice of an interior designer for smaller changes for getting the most out of your home by the solution and for starting stylish the New Year.

Study nook

September is the beginning of school for every student of any age. It’s practical to create the study nook in time just like to purchase the required tools.
The two of the most important furniture are the desk and the chair. Adult size furniture should be bought for a school-beginner six-years-old kid also, since we have to plan for a long term. The comfortable height of a desk is between 70 and 73 cm. Make sure that it is stable and there is enough free space on the top of the desk for learning – this means at least 55-60 cm depth. If there is superstructure, its size should be added to the depth. The top of the desk shouldn’t be transparent because it disturbs the concentration. Since nowadays the computer is an integral part of learning, in the case of a desk PC there should be separated place for the computer, the monitor and the keyboard also.
The desk should be placed to get proper natural lighting, namely near the window, perpendicular to it as far as possible, for the outer world doesn’t attract the student’s eyes. Table lamp is an essential accessory. As to the lighting, it has to be considered that the light should arrive from the left in the case of a right-handed and from the right in the case of a left-handed pupil.
The ideal work chair is height-adjustable, both the seat and the back is upholstered, it has arms and castors as far as possible for it being comfortable and ergonomic as much as it can be.
The study area needs a cabinet with shelves and storage with drawers for writing materials and other tools. If the room has wooden floor, a smaller carpet should be placed under the chair because it provides more comfortable feeling for the feet.

Nursery

A newborn is always a great event in a life of a family. Weeks before the child room will be finished, the furniture, clothes and other required accessories will be purchased. There are some issues to consider while doing the preparations.
The baby’s room should be designed to let the baby grow up in it, that means to be suitable at least till 6 years without change. Cradle is a fashionable furniture again, but not too practical, since it can be used for only a few months. Instead, a cot should be bought that can be converted according to the future needs: the grid can be removed, the height can be adjusted and even the length can be extended. Diaper changing table has to be chosen to fit the height of the parents. The most practical ones have drawers and doors also, later it can act as a commode that gives place for all the small clothes.
Floor heating is not healthy in a baby’s room, it can cause dust allergy and the continuous heat coming from the floor is also not advantageous. A larger, loop pile carpet on a wooden floor or cork flooring can be ideal solution, they can be cleaned easily and warm enough for climbing and toddling.
Generally the boy’s room is painted and decorated in blue and girl’s room in pink. Beneath, other colours can be applied of course, even natural tones like beige or cream. Babies need a big amount of visual stimuli, but not by the strong wall colours or brightly patterned wallpaper. The bottom third of the wall should be covered with resistant paint or wallpaper, since as the baby learns to walk, this area will be exposed to heavy duty. Because of this, framed pictures, photos should be positioned over access height. A shelf is needed for powders and lotions which can be easily accessed by parents when changing diapers, but not for the child.
Important to consider the requirements of the baby and the parents instead of the fashion at planning. If a practical and decorative baby’s room is the goal, ask for help from an interior designer.

Built-in attic

Building in the attic is one of the best methods for increasing the useful floor space of a house. Such a reconstruction raises not only the value of the property but very comfortable living space can be created with applying some rules.
Pay attention to the quality of insulation because it can largely affect the costs of heating-cooling in the future. Take care of the latter, because these rooms have to be more intensely heated in winter and cooled in summer. The livability of the attic depends on the proper amount of light. If it is possible, more or bigger windows should be built in. If they can be placed only on a high level, let’s choose pieces with handles on their lower part. Since sunshine can be a problem in summer, proper shading should be provided. Mostly roll-up blind or light-reflecting window-foil might be the solution but common curtains shouldn’t be neglected either because of the sloped roof! It can be just as elegant as in an ordinary living room or bedroom, with clever solutions. Attic might be darker in winter than other rooms, so the proper implementing of artificial lighting has to be attended already at the beginning of the works.
A built-in attic can be suited to several functions. In the case of a bedroom, the bed shouldn’t be placed under the skylight because it can disturb the calming rest. If the wardrobe will be here, dehumidifying is a very important task. In the case of children’s room or playroom, safety is a must, especially if there is a balcony also. It’s worth to use additional sound-proofing in the case of a movie or TV room. The proper darkening can be solved here easier. This kind of space can be good for a hobby room or home office also. Take care of placing the desks for avoiding hitting the sloping roof when standing up from the chair. A wider tabletop can be used for this.
Always ask for help of professionals for building-in an attic. Consult with an interior designer for optimizing the final furnishing and for the best usage of the space.

Children’s room

In the age of 5-12 years, one knows what he or she likes in the child room and what not. It’s advisable to ask their opinion when renovating their room.
Beyond the view, the function is very important. From the age of six, learning should be supported by the room. When designing a cozy learning corner fitting to its function, it’s also important that the child should spend several hours in it. The direction of incoming natural light is essential, such as artificial lighting and storing facilities for books, drawing tools, other scholar equipments and even for a computer.
Bed should be placed where the child cannot see the learning corner from. If this is impossible, scholar equipments and computer should be kept in a place which can be closed. This provides more relaxed rest.
Other parts of the room are the place of playing of course. There should be enough space on the floor to place toys. Let’s install shelves for the exhibition of “treasures”. Children have lots of hobbies that last for several months only (e.g.: dinosaurs, princesses, cartoon characters, action heroes, etc.), but they are enthusiastic in displaying these era in the complete room. A child room can be allocated such a way, that transformation will not cause a problem in case of changing habits. With clever color selection, removable decoration and a cabinet for the hobbies, future transformation problems can be easily eliminated. It’s practical to use neutral, light colors on the wall, since the toys and other accessories are extremely colorful anyhow. Too strong, static colors can distract the child’s attention from learning, sleeping, in worst case causing hyperactivity.
If you would like to surprise your children with a tailored new room for Children’s day, meanwhile the classic elegance of the apartment should be kept, or one room should be implemented for the requirements of two children, ask help from an experienced interior designer.
