When classic style lovers buy a completely renovated flat, they frequently have to face with the fact that the newly built-in materials (kitchen cabinet, lighting, tiles, doors and windows etc.) are totally modern. Since these were included in the price and probably, they didn’t choose a flat in such a condition randomly, only a few of them would undertake a full conversion just for the classic style. How could be this solved with a low budget and few works to meet our conception at the best?
Choosing the proper wall color means a lot for the sight, since one of the advantages of classic styles is that the desired mood can be easily created even with colors. Painting can be done before moving in and it is much cheaper and faster than wallpapering. Placing polystyrene crown molding is always worth. It not only heightens the room but it is an elegant solution also. Rosette fits perfectly for chandeliers. Faux wall panel frames made of polystyrene laths can be put on the walls which look good even in the same color as the wall. However, this material is very vulnerable, so be careful not to hit it.
Let’s glue a frame made of thin laths on the plain surfaces of the built-in wardrobes and kitchen cabinets, just like if they would be real framed. A prefabricated decor panel can be used for this purpose also. Both of them can be painted / burnished to the color of the furniture. Changing the handles is a really simple procedure and amends a lot.
If there is no possibility to change the lighting and the chandelier is modern, or there is a multi-light spot, don’t be frustrated. Glass beads similar to crystal chandeliers’ decoration can be purchased in several hobby shops – let’s make the garlands DIY and fix them with small metal rings to the lamps. Its modernity can be moderated with this and some glamour can be smuggled in.
If the doors have completely plain surfaces, they can be popped up in the similar way as the cabinets. In the case of a glassed variation, self-adhesive foil can be a solution to make it more classic, for example with a lace motif.
Most of the inappropriate floor can be covered with a fitting classic style carpet. The modern tile in the bathroom is a harder thing. If the color is good, we can distract the eye from it with classic style accessories (storage boxes, decorative glasses, pictures on the wall). If its color is too modern and it doesn’t fit for our concept at all, it can be painted also. However, it should be known, that this is not a long-term solution, it lasts approx 2-3 years (in the case of a proper implementation) and it could happen that the painting has to be renewed during this time.
Above the low budget was in focus, of course, more spectacular solutions can be done with a bigger amount. Many similar questions can come up in the case of a modern interior. Ask for help of an interior designer for the solution.

My project 21.

The renovation of this 56 sqm downtown flat for a very nice woman was finished last year. The main tasks were space reorganization and creating enough storage. The old kitchen is now the bedroom for taking advantage of the small back-balcony, so the pantry became a gardrobe. The new kitchen was created by removing the wall between a small room and the entrance space. The old hall’s wall was also removed, this way there was enough space for the dining area and large wardrobes. The central space is much more roomy and livable. The neutral cream and brown colors provide the calm base that is enlivened by different hues of blue, from turquoise to cobalt.

My project 20.

I recently finished the interior design plan of this living room for a kind couple. The room is 22 sqm and has bedroom function too. The request was to freshen and make it cosier by keeping the sofa set and day-bed. The owner fell in love with this type of wardrobe-set, so the main task were choosing the proper elements, planning the furniture set and custom-made ordering. The wallpaper took a bold decision. Finally I found one of which had fine color to made elegant background for the furniture. It is a block apartment, so stripes help heighten the room and mouldings complete the view. The light turquoise of accessories and fabrics is perfect for offsetting the shades of brown. The chosen furniure set did not contain the proper coffee table, finally I found one in an auction website, perfect in style and color. I had to solve the storage of remembrancers, books and TV.

3D visualization

3D visualization has an important role in the design process. The plans of the designer merged with technical plans and product samples are not always comprehensible for the client, who needs something which shows the upshot in a final state, almost in 3D visualization.
Perspective drawing was the first solution for this. The room has been drawn from the perspective of the viewer and looked like if he or she was just standing in it. It could show the relationship of the objects to each other and the scales. It needed handcraft and took a long time. More perspectives meant more drawings.
In the old times, the usual way of this was making scale-models. The miniaturized model of the building was made of paper or wood. This process took a long time also. It was followed by the acceptance of the customer. Since the building constructions themselves were very slow and the furniture was made by craftsmen, realizing a whole interior took many years. Nowadays there is no time for this. In our faster world, technics can help this process also. For example, Rapid Prototyping (RPT) is one of them, which builds the model based on plans generated by software, from several materials, in a relatively short time. This technology is rarely used in interior design.
This process became faster by the emergence and development of CAD software. The „camera” can move freely in the interior designed, so visualization from various aspects took only some more minutes. A new question arose: the quality of the 3D visualizations. The gap between pictures without rendering and photorealistic pictures is huge. All depends on the requirements of the client. Some of them need only a simple visualization to see the harmony of colors and furniture, what can be fit in. But professional visualization is a must in a tender, especially in the case of public buildings.
Most of the architectural and interior design software have a rendering module. However, a perfect result can be achieved only by an external rendering software, which has been developed especially for this purpose. We actually get a realistic picture just like a real photo by setting several parameters. This process is helped by interior manufacturers with providing 3D files of their products which can be imported to the software. This way the chosen lamp, sofa or other product can be exactly placed in the plans, not just a similar one.
Of course, visualizations are still time-consuming process, regardless to the easy-to-use software solutions. Besides, hand drawings still have great importance, because these are unique, having almost an artistic value. Interior designers provide 3D visualizations of the plans if required.
